I wonder if Elder Hilbig wrote his prayer ahead of time and simply read it – kind of like what is done with certain dedicatory prayers. Just a thought . . .

Yes, go to the main LDS.org page and follow the link through to the GC broadcast page. You can pull up the videos for any of the completed sessions, including the Priesthood Session.

Thanks. I hadn’t noticed that (since my own eyes were closed). I just rewatched it. It seemed that he was reading something and then kept looking up to make eye contact with the congregation. I don’t know if there was a bit of a murmur or laugh from the crowd, but as President Eyring stood up, he had a smirk on his face.

What was equally as surprising about Elder Keith K Hilbig’s opening prayer was that he opened his eyes 12 times (yes, I rewound and counted). The 12th time lasted for 4 seconds!
