Another thought from the High Priest Group lesson I mentioned the other day.

We learn in D&C 76 about the post-mortal life (specifically the three degrees of glory). Heavenly Father lives exclusively in the Celestial Kingdom. Jesus lives there, too, but will visit the Terrestrial Kingdom. The Holy Ghost will be felt in the Telestial Kingdom. Apparently beings will be able to visit down the line as well. Those in the Terrestrial Kingdom can visit those in the Telestial Kingdom, and beings in the Celestial Kingdom can visit the Terrestrial kingdom.

If you are interested, I found a couple of good quotes about this sort of visitation here.

The question asked in class was, “What is the purpose of that?” There is no chance to jump between worlds going up, so having someone come from a place you can’t go to is almost like another hell. I had never thought of it that way before. I thought about it a little more, and I’ve come to a different conclusion. There is a fantastic buffet restaurant in Ontario called Mandarin Chinese Buffet Restaurant. It is expensive, but the quality of food is fantastic. I don’t go very often, but whenever I get the chance, I love it, I’m glad I could go, and I look forward to going again. I never think how awful it is that I can’t go all the time. I’m wondering if that is how it will be when a being from a Kingdom above visits… it’ll be great, we’ll be happy we were able to feel that, and can’t wait for that being to come again.

Just my two cents…

I taught one of the last lessons in High Priest Group at the end of December, and we were discussing judgment and exaltation. Someone asked when the Holy Ghost would get a body? I spoke to this person later, and asked why He needed one, and this person said that we associate exaltation with having a body. Good point.

Anyway, a quick search on the Internet shows that other people have had this question as well. There were two good responses on websites run by FAIR (Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research).

What about the Holy Ghost – Note: when I first posted this, the link worked. Now it says the page doesn’t exist. I’m leaving the link in place in case the page appears agaon.

Holy Ghost/Divinity without a body

To summarize the answer, we don’t know when He will get a body. Based on D&C 93: 33, we learn that to have a fulness of joy, we need a body. However, it doesn’t say we have to have one. Godhood is not defined by having a body. The Holy Ghost does not have a body, but He is in the Godhead. Christ was considered a God before he was born, and He didn’t have a body yet.

Another General Conference, another 10 hours. This was the first time we had watched all of the sessions at home (other than Priesthood Session), and we loved it. We missed seeing some of the other members, but being able to watch it on our 46″ flat screen TV in HD at home was fantastic!

I made it through the first 3 general sessions and the priesthood session without any problem. I got a little sleepy during the last session. However, I still managed to watch every minute of each session, and here are a few thoughts:

My favourite talk was probably Elder Kent F Richards from the first session. He spoke about the purpose of pain

When I heard that this was the 75th anniversary of the welfare program of the Church, I was a little worried that every talk was going to be about that topic. I think that there was a good balance.

I think most people agree, but President Uchtdorf is a great speaker

I enjoyed the Saturday Morning and Sunday Afternoon sessions the most

One of the best things about conference Sunday is having all that time in the morning! Where we are, the first session starts at noon. So this morning we got up and had a nice breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pancakes. After cleaning up the kitchen we went out for a walk. It is another beautiful spring day.

We watched a bit of Music and the Spoken Word, and are now settled down to watch today’s first session of conference. The kids will be watchings the entire session with us.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang O Thou Rock of Our Salvation

President Henry B Eyring conducted. It was noted again the anniversary of the Church Security Plan (the Church Welfare Program). It was announced 75 years ago by President Heber J Grant

The choir sang Sabbath Day (there was a guy who kind of looked like Conan O’Brien in the choir)

Elder Gary E Stevenson offered the invocation

there are those who feel that unless they have an experience like Saul or Joseph Smith, they cannot believe

instead of taking small steps on the path of discipleship, they want something that will compel them

those who diligently try to find the Master will come to know Him

to better hear the Spirit, we need to turn down the volume control of the noise of the world

some of the most powerful promptings we receive are not just for our benefit, but also for the benefit of others

the answer to our prayers often comes when we are on our feet, serving others

Elder Paul V Johnson

I go to Church a little before 8 pm. A YM has just returned from his mission. While he was away, his parents moved, so he won’t be staying in the area. Tonight was the only chance to catch up with him.

Afterward, my father and I continued a tradition we’ve had for probably 20 years… We went out for food. We went to Boston Pizza where I got a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and a smoothie. Great times!

Well, another conference is upon us. My family is gathered in our living room, and we expect to watch all of the sessions at home. Of course, I’ll have to go to Church tonight for the Priesthood session. My father and I will continue our tradition of going out afterward. I think we’re going to Boston Pizza.

I don’t have any specific expectations, but I’m sure there will be many talks that I enjoy. I’m also looking forward to hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I enjoy most of their music.

Well, another General Conference has come to a close. I know I comment on this every time, but it’s hard for me to get through 10 hours worth of meetings over two days. I don’t know how the General Authorities manage to do get through it in the Conference Center without falling asleep.

We watched this last session at home in the comfort of our living room.

Overall, it was much like other General Conferences. There certainly weren’t any talks that I thought were terrible, but that isn’t to say that I loved every one. There are obviously ones that I liked more than others. Out of all of the talks, the one I’ll probably remember the most was Elder Holland’s about pornography. He was definitely bold. I also thought Sister Beck’s talk was excellent. I’ll have to watch/read them again and see if I still feel the same way.

President Henry B Eyring conducted

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang Come, O Thou King of Kings

The invocation was offered by Christoffel Golden, Jr

The choir sang Jesus, Once of Humble Birth

Elder Russell M Nelson

When we sense the love we have for our family, we can imagine the love Heavenly Father has for us

The Church protects the truth that family is central to God’s plan

This church brings hope and help to this sacred institution of the family

No matter your situation, you can make family history a part of your life

New FamilySearch is creating one pedigree we all work on

Elder Robert D Hales

There is no substitute for seeing the gospel lived in our daily life

The stripling warriors didn’t have to wonder what their parents believed

Do our children know what we know?

When we sit down at the dinner table, is the whole family there?

Mother, Father, Grandma, Grandpa, are you there?

Being there means understanding their hearts and connecting with them

Teach them to walk in the light, but it can’t be borrowed light

Elder Bradley D Foster

There is no greater good in all the world than motherhood

By diving design, nurturing is part of mothers

A distraction doesn’t need to be evil to be effective

In a world where everyone is granted agency, some of our loved ones may stray for a season, but we must never give up

We never know when a heart will be turned

The choir and congregation sang I Know That My Redeemer Lives

Elder James B Martino

We’ll all face trials

How we react determines are success

Learn from Christ

Remain committed

Seek greater help from God

Learn to serve and think of others

Forgive others, and do not blame others

As we pass through the trials of life, keep an eternal perspective

Elder Gregory A Schwitzer

Do not judge others, but use excellent judgment

Good judgment guidelines

Align yourself to the gospel

Listen to the messages of the living prophet

Have a listening relationship with the Holy Spirit

Keep the commandments

Elder Francisco J Vinas

Spoke of natural disasters

Dying to spiritual things is worth than death

The Leadership Training Emphasis wants each family member to read, pray, and live the gospel

These things are works of righteousness

He who doeth the works of righteousness will receive his reward

Elder Neil L Andersen

The harmony in the talks is a miracle

We have heard and felt the mind and will of the Lord

The rising generation is the very best ever

“Tell me the stories of Jesus”

Are the life and teachings of Jesus Christ embedded in the hearts of our children?

Do they know that Jesus taught “Ask, and ye shall receive”?

If the child is not listening with a believing heart, your testimony will stay.

If a child is not listening, do not despair. Time and truth are on your side

Two men can do anything, as long as one of them is the Lord

President Thomas S Monson

Trust in the Lord and lean not unto thine own understanding

That is the story of his life

We’ve been richly blessed

The world seems to have slipped from the moorings of safety

The problems in the world cause people to be tossed about in a sea of sin and crushed on the jagged reef of missed opportunities and shattered dreams

There is no one so lost that can’t be saved by the lighthouse of the Lord

Thank you for your prayers

May His promised peace be with you

The choir sang Abide with Me; ‘Tis Eventide
