			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Back in January I posted an ad for Temple Square that a co-worker had given me out of a travel trade magazine. At the time I asked why the Church does this&#8230; money? converts?</p>
<p>Well, now there are <a href="http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&amp;sid=5829481">reports that Temple Square is the 16th most-visited attraction</a> in the United States. That&#8217;s very impressive and good news for the Church. Whatever the reason for the marketing, it is bearing fruit.</p>
<p>The original <a href="http://www.forbestraveler.com/best-lists/most-visited-attractions-us-2009-story.html">Forbes Traveler</a> write-up says the following (with credit given to the LDS Newsroom):</p>
<blockquote><p>The Mormon church&#8217;s headquarters are here, but Temple Square is more than just a destination for Latter Day Saints. In 2008, visitation to the square, which is festooned with lights for the holiday season, numbered around five million, making it Utah&#8217;s top tourist destination.</p></blockquote>

He&#8217;s commented before that he will occasionally see information promoting Salt Lake City as a destination for conferences. The ad has a nice illustration of temple square. I didn&#8217;t say this to my co-worker, but it made me wonder why the Church does this&#8230; Is there any money in it? Is it strictly a missionary tool?</p>
