186th_semiannual_general_conference_header-450x250

I finally got around to watching the General Women’s Session. It was exceptional.

Sister Linda K Burton conducted

The choir made up of Young Women from stakes in Ogden, Huntsville, and Morgan Utah sang Arise, O Glorious Zion

The invocation was offered by Denise P Lindberg

The choir sang If I Listen with My Heart

Sister Jean B Bingham

  • Since last conference much charitable work has been done with refugees
  • You must have charity to be saved
  • Be generous in your thoughts and words
  • We look at others with incomplete or inaccurate views
  • A compliment or smile can be like a wind in our sails
  • Choose to say what is positive
  • Don’t compare ourselves to others
  • The great beauty is the reality of eternal progression
  • Will we commit to bless others in Jesus’ name?

Sister Carole M Stephens

  • We need to understand the doctrine of Christ
  • She has met people who are desperate for help but who won’t turn to the One (Christ)
  • All of us need the same infinite atonement
  • He is might to save
  • Helps i not found in screete. It is found in the Light of CHrist
  • She told story of a YW named Josie who suffers from bipolar disorder who felt the power of the atonement. As her mother said she wished she could take the pain away, Josie said, “You don’t have to, someone already has”
  • You don’t have to carry burdens and pains alone

Sister Bonnie L Oscarson

  • We live in perilous times
  • Moroni asked “Why are ye ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ?
  • We are at risk of being led astray by false teachings
  • We live in perilous times, but they are also the fulness of times
  • 3 foundational areas of a strong testimony include Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are central, the need for a restoration, and to study and understand temple ordinances
  • many have questions, but there are answers
  • we are afraid to cause offense, so we fail to teach the correct doctrine
  • “All women need to see themselves as essential participants in the work of the priesthood. Women in this Church are presidents, counselors, teachers, members of councils, sisters, and mothers, and the kingdom of God cannot function unless we rise up and fulfill our duties with faith. Sometimes we just need to have a greater vision of what is possible.”
  • Be bold and straightforward as we teach

The choir sang How Firm a Foundation

President Dieter F Uchtdorf

  • President Monson loves you sisters
  • He summarized the woman of influence in his life
  • This same thing is repeated millions of times across the Church
  • Faith is a conviction that moves us to action
  • Faith confuses non-believers
  • There are more ways to see than with your eyes
  • When trying to help others, telling them to try harder may not be the best way
  • The better advice is to do it differently
  • No matter how much faith we have, we cannot violate others agency
  • Faith cannot force our will upon God’s
  • The purpose of faith is not to change God’s will, but to empower us to act on God’s will
  • He told the store of how the missionaries found his wife Harriett and her family. They were on the top floor of the building, and the last door.
  • God rewards those who seek Him, but He is usually not behind the first door
  • Continue in faith until the fourth floor, last door

The choir and congregation sang I Know That My Redeemer Lives

The benediction was offered by Bonnie H Cordon

  • “you can have what you want, or you can have something better”

The choir and congregation sang Secret Prayer

  • we never have to question where are the keys?
  • keys are necessary for the saving ordinances
  • attend the temple to experience keys in action

Elder Kevin R Duncan

  • there is not a soul alive who not be a victim of someone else’s sinful conduct
  • we can forgive

  • pride can break of marriages and friendships
  • think of the heartache you can avoid by humbling yourself and saying sorry

Choir sang The Lord My Pasture Will Prepare

Elder Dale G Renlund

  • for those who need welfare help, the further the distance between the giver and the receiver, the more the giver has a sense of entitlement
  • murmuring is like childish whining
  • the closer we are to Jesus, the more we appreciate his innocent suffering

The choir sang Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Elder Arnulfo Valenzuela offered the benediction

So, I’m at home now with my family. The kids went out to the backyard to shot a few baskets (I think it’s too cold for basketball, but I’m glad they got some fresh air) in between sessions.

I’m interested to see/hear the statistical report this afternoon

President Henry B Eyring conduct

A combined choir from the Orem Utah Institute sang Glory to God on High

The invocation was offered by Elder Ian S Ardern

President Dieter F Ucthdorf did the sustainings

  • Lynn G Robbins was called to the Presidency of the Seventy
  • Our former stake president who became an Area Seventy last year is moving out of the area. He wasn’t released, so I guess he’ll be an area authority where he is moving to. I didn’t recognize any of the new names sustained, so I guess I don’t know (of) the Area Seventy who will replace him

Kevin R Jergensen, Managing Director, Church Auditing Department Annual Report

182nd Semiannual General Conference – Sunday Morning General Session

We had a great morning! We got up after 7 am, had a nice big breakfast (regular bacon, peameal bacon, eggs, pancakes, bagels and toast) and then went for a long walk. When we got back, the kids watched a cartoon movie, and I watched the Music and the Spoken Word broadcast.

We’re all set now to watch the Sunday Morning General Session. The whole family will watch the session together.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang Oh Say, What is truth?

President Dieter F Uchtdorf conducted

The choir sang The Morning Breaks (a gorgeous arrangement!)

Elder Marlin K Jensen offered the invocation

President Henry B Eyring

  • many of us feel that God is far from us

  • don’t let things of life stop of us from seeing the things of God
  • we can’t insist on our time table when God has his own
  • His time should be enough for us since he wants only what is best
  • some delays seem long, but they are always calculated to bless
  • we can be assured the Lord keeps his promises

President Boyd K Packer (spoke from his chair)

  • told a story about going to American Samoa years ago
  • there was a horrible storm and along the coast there was a light above on land, and a light below
  • quoted from Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy
  • we need to repent and turn away from sin
  • guilt can be wiped out

The choir sang Does the Journey Seem Long?

Sister Linda K Burton

  • we are surrounded by people who need us
  • we need to love one another
  • it isn’t easy, but we can do better with practice
  • observe then serve

The choir and congregation sang Called to Serve

Elder Walter F. González

  • we need to come unto Christ
  • navigating millions of pages on the Internet will not be enough
  • we have another source for greater knowledge
  • we need to navigate the celestial web in our hearts and minds
  • iniquity hampers our ability to love

Elder Jeffrey R Holland (he always speaks with such passion!)

  • we forget how inexperienced the original apostles were and how much they depended on the Savior
  • when Jesus left them, the apostles must have asked “What do we do now?”
  • they went fishing, and saw the Savior again
  • the Savior asks, “Do you love me?”
  • Christ needs disciples and needs them forever
  • at judgement day, we very well may be asked if we loved God
  • we can’t quit and we can’t go back
  • the commission to a missionary as he baptizes people changes the convert, but it was to change the missionary as well
  • love God and remain clean from the blood and sins of this generation
  • our Father in Heaven expects our loyalty and love

The choir sang If the Savior Stood Beside me

President Thomas S Monson

  • our prayers are heard and answered
  • the more we act on impressions and inspiration, the more the Lord will trust us with his errands
  • never postpone a prompting
  • shared a few stories of ways he had responded to a prompting to find out the person had been praying for help
