A couple of good quotes from Ward Conference

As is often the case, I’m late in posting things, but as they say, better late than never.

Our Ward Conference was last Fall (September I think) and I made note of a couple good quotes that I figured I’d share.

The primary kids sang “I Know That My Savior Loves Me” and one of the lines is:

I did not touch Him or sit on His knee,
Yet, Jesus is real to me.

What a beautiful thing to have the kids sing. I’m sure very few of them grasp the seriousness and beauty of what they are saying, but I still love the fact that my kids sing it. Hopefully I can help Jesus become even more real to them.

Someone shared a phrase that President Monson has shared many times:

You can’t be right by doing wrong and you can’t be wrong by doing right

It is a pretty simple phrase, but I’d have a pretty hard time understanding how anyone could disagree with it

Someone shared the quote “Don’t let the things that matter most suffer because of the things that matter least.” I liked the sound of it, and looked online for who said it. It was actually a German writer and scholar named Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (28 August 1749 – 22 March 1832) who said:

Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least

This kind of goes along with my post on using our time wisely from a couple of weeks ago. We do need to focus on what matters most!

Awesome Lego model of the Bountiful Utah Temple

A few days ago the Deseret News had an article about a temple made from Lego. The man was asked by the local Primary President to make a model of the temple. Well, it took it several months and used over 13,000 pieces. The end result was an absolutely amazing replica of the Bountiful Utah Temple. Here is a reduced size picture. You should read the whole article to get more details, see this picture larger, as well as a couple of other pictures.

FHE – Draw That Hymn

My wife led the Family Home Evening lesson last night and we talked about Church music. She asked us all to draw a picture of our favourite hymn or Primary song and we would all try to guess it. The one who guessed it right got to sing the song. Here are our drawings. See if you can guess each song:

  1. 20090309_fhe_01
  2. 20090309_fhe_02
  3. 20090309_fhe_03
  4. 20090309_fhe_04

Did you get them all? Here are the answers:

  1. Drawn by my 4-year-old son. This is a tough one… It’s “Follow The Prophet”. Apparently that is my son on the left and the prophet on the right.
  2. Drawn by my 6-year-old son. It’s “Families Can Be Together Forever”. It is a family sitting in the living room together. One person is reading a book.
  3. I drew this one (no, I’m not an artist). Hopefully you figured out that this is “Popcorn Popping”. There is a person looking out the window.
  4. This was drawn by my wife. This is probably the easiest one to guess. Yes, it’s “Holding Hands Around the World”.
