Brand Logo – Case Study
McDonald’s rebranded in Russia – Unveils Name & Logo
As it readies to reopen restaurants, the Russian fast-food chain formerly known as McDonald’s has revealed its new logo.
The new logo includes a circle and two lines, which are said to represent a burger and two French fries.
Under Russian ownership and with a new name “Vkusno-i tochka,” or “Tasty and that’s it,” McDonald’s reinstated their doors.
“The green background of the logo symbolizes the quality of products and service that our guests are accustomed to,” a Sistema PBO spokesperson said this to TASS.
To a fantastic start, the rebranded McDonald’s sold 120,000 burgers on the first day.
The original owner, American businessman Ray Kroc, sold the company to local licensee and entrepreneur Alexander Govor after which it was reopened as ‘Vkusno i tochka.’
The reborn restaurants have kept about 62,000 former McDonald’s employees.

Budweiser’s Original Slogan – “The King of Bottled Beer”
Packaging
Budweiser, which derives its name from the Czech Republic town of Budweis, became the first widely distributed beer.
Draught kegs and glass bottles were the only available packaging materials to brewers during this time. Because Budweiser was originally sold in containers, its original slogan was actually “the King of Bottled Beer.”
A “King of Bottled Beer” cardboard sign from the 1930s.
“By specifically mentioning bottles in the ‘King of Bottled Beer’ slogan, Budweiser communicated the overall strength of the brand as well a defining feature separating Budweiser from some of its competitors,” a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) said this to CNN Business.
In the mid-twentieth century, as aluminum cans became more popular packaging, the slogan was altered to “King of Beers.”
It’s still in use today and appears on Budweiser labels.

Brand Elements – Types
Brand Name
Brand names are a powerful tool for communication.
Customers pay attention to brand names and remember their significance in only a few seconds, as opposed to advertisements that last half a minute.
Characters
A brand’s character is often represented by a certain kind of branding symbol.
This element has a human or real-life persona.
Logos and Symbols
The brand name is typically the core element of a brand, but visual elements play an important part in building brand equity and especially awareness.
Visual logos range from corporate names or trademarks (word marks with text alone) written in a distinctive style to entirely abstract designs
URL
URLs (uniform resource locators) are domain names that designate specific web locations and are generally regarded as domain names.
For instance; Facebook paid $8.5 million to the American company Farm Bureau for the domain name FB.com.

Jingles
Jingles are nothing but fun musical messages written about the brand.
Ideally written by professional songwriters, they often are catchy and sticky in nature which almost permanently registers in the minds of listeners
Slogans
Slogans are short expressions that express descriptive or persuasive data about the brand.
They can operate as valuable “hooks” or “handles” to assist consumers in grasping the meaning of the brand.

Types of Brand Elements – Packaging
Packaging is the method of designing and producing containers or wraps for a specific product.
Packaging, like any other brand element, is important for a company. The aesthetic of its packaging has the strongest associations that consumers have with a business.
Marketers must take into account both visual and structural aspects of packaging when developing strategy.
The aesthetics (shape, size, material, color, text, and graphics) as well as the operational aspect (structural design) are concerned with

Criteria for Selecting Brand Elements
Memorable – Easy to recognize and recall
Meaningful – Detailed and convincing
Likable – Entertaining as well as engaging via rich visuals and aesthetic elegance
Transferable
In and across a wide variety of product categories along with geographic and cultural boundaries
Adaptable
Quite flexible and simple to upgrade or update.
Protectable
Competitive and legal.

Memorability
During purchase or consumption, distinctive and appealing features bring in quick recall and recognition.
The criteria of memorability could come through any of the brand elements such as name, logo, character or even packaging
